Cheng studied and qualified at Leeds Dental School in 2010 before moving to Beverley. After a foundation year working as a general dentist, he trained with the Maxillofacial and Oral surgery department at Hull Royal Infirmary for a year to further improve his surgical skills. He has worked in general practice ever since, working in private practise since 2013. His interests within dentistry is restorative dentistry, full mouth rehabilitation, smile design, cosmetic dentistry, orthodontics and implant dentistry. He is a huge proponent of digital technology in dentistry and has lead the development in transforming the practice into a cutting edge, fully digital practice. Cheng is experienced in CADCAM smile design and manufacture, and is the technical lead for the practice. At Perfect 32, he utilises the latest technology available to help rebuild smiles – in December 2025 Perfect 32 took delivery of a MODJAW scanner – a specialist device (1 of 33 devices in the UK) that help record the exact chewing patterns of each patient, alongside a T-scan occlusal scanner. Cheng strongly believes that using the latest technology available is incredibly important in providing the best possible care for his patients.
Cheng has had extensive training in most areas of advanced dentistry – including restorative dentistry, dental implants, full mouth rehabilitation and orthodontics. Because of this broad and extensive training, he is in a unique position of understanding and planning challenging and complex treatment cases. Cheng takes referrals from the surrounding areas for complex restorative cases, such as full mouth rehabilitation (where worn down teeth are carefully designed and rebuilt to restore the smile), suction dentures, ortho-restorative cases (where restorative treatment is combined with braces) and dental implants.
Cheng completed his initial implant training with BAIRD academy in 2021, and more recently completed his diploma in Implant Dentistry with the Academy of Implant Excellence in 2026. His orthodontic diploma training has been taught by Professor Jonathan Sandler and Dr Alison Murray in 2025 where has gained experience placing fixed braces and has been integrating this into his restorative dental treatments.
Cheng has done extensive cosmetic training with anterior composite bonding courses by experts Jason Smithson and Gurvinder Birth, crown lengthening and gum surgery training with specialist Ian Dunn and undertaken CEREC CADCAM courses with James Klim. He has been taught advanced denture training with specialist prosthodontist Finlay Sutton, and senior prosthetics lecturer Mark Bishop, which means he can provide cutting edge, well fitting dentures and implant retained dentures.
When he’s not fixing smiles you can find Cheng carving up fresh snow across Europe on his snowboard or pointing his mountain bike down an alpine mountain. He is a keen photographer and also loves interior design, having helped design and construct the new practice in 2019.
